Overview

SailorsLog is designed with privacy in mind. Your data is stored in Apple's iCloud using CloudKit, which means your content is protected by Apple's industry-leading privacy and security practices.

Data We Collect

Content You Create

• Logbook entries — titles, text, dates, and metadata you enter
• Photos — images you add to entries, stored as iCloud assets
• GPS coordinates — location data you choose to capture
• GPX tracks — route files you import from navigation apps

Technical Data

• Device identifiers — used by Apple for iCloud sync
• App usage analytics — anonymized crash reports (optional)

How Data Flows

1. You create content in the SailorsLog iOS app
2. Content is stored in Apple CloudKit (iCloud public database)
3. When you publish, a webhook triggers our static site generator
4. Your content is rendered to static HTML on Cloudflare Pages
5. Published content is publicly accessible at your subdomain

Important: Published entries are public. Draft entries are stored in CloudKit but not published to the web.

Data Storage

All data is stored in Apple CloudKit, which provides:

• End-to-end encryption for private data
• Data residency in Apple's secure data centers
• Compliance with GDPR and other privacy regulations

We do not operate our own servers or databases. Apple handles all data storage and synchronization.

Third-Party Services

• Apple CloudKit — data storage and sync
• Cloudflare Pages — website hosting
• OpenStreetMap — map tiles (no personal data shared)

Your Rights

You can:

• Export all your data as JSON from the app settings
• Delete individual entries or your entire account
• Unpublish entries at any time (removes from web)
• Request data deletion by contacting support

Children's Privacy

SailorsLog is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. Significant changes will be announced in the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
